If you’ve just purchased a home warranty, you may wonder how a home warranty works. The process to open a service request and get your systems and appliances repaired or replaced is simple and easy and only takes five steps!
- Read your home warranty contract
When you first receive your Landmark welcome booklet, read through it to ensure you know what’s covered in your home warranty. (We provide a good overview at that link, but it’s not your legal contract.) That way, you can increase your protection on items you may need covered and make sure you know what items you can open service requests on if they fail.
- When a system or appliance fails, call Landmark first!
Don’t call a contractor, make sure to call Landmark first. We will talk to you about what part of your home has failed to see if the failure is covered under our contract. If the Customer Service Manager determines that the failure may be covered under the warranty, we will contact a trusted and bonded contractor for you, who will schedule an appointment within four business hours of when you opened the request.
- Contractor will diagnose the failure
When the contractor arrives for the appointment, you will pay them a service call fee, which pays for the diagnosis of your failed system or appliance. The contractor will inspect the failure, and diagnose the problem. They will contact Landmark with the diagnosis and Landmark will approve the repair or replacement if it is covered under your plan and contract.
- Contractor will repair or replace
Once Landmark has given approval, the contractor will repair or replace your failed system or appliance. If the system or appliance has no limitations in your home warranty plan (like our A/C and Heating units), you’ll only pay your service call fee and the rest is paid by Landmark! If there are limits in your home warranty contract for the system or appliance that has failed, you’ll pay our discounted pricing for remaining amount of money owed to Landmark. Make sure you’re aware of the limits in your contract. You'll save hundreds of dollars!
- Your system or appliance is repaired or replaced!
Once the contractor has gone through the repair or replacement, your system or appliance is up and running and the service work is good for 30 days! You can open another service request if something else fails and start the process over.
